GAME to open Comet concessions

Electricals chain Comet has announced that it is to open a number of GAME concessions in its stores, taking the video games specialist back to out-of-town retail parks.

The first, due to open in mid-October, will be in Comet’s Croydon outlet. A further five concessions will be launched before the end of the year. It coincides with Comet’s brand re-launch that leads with the strapline Come and Play”.

Each will be between 1,000-1,500 square feet in size and will mirror the look and design on GAME’s High Street outlets. They will be staffed by GAME employees and will operate independently from the parent Comet outlet.

This trial partnership will give customers access to our full range of products and specialist services in new out of town and retail park locations,” GAME Group’s Northern Europe MD Martyn Gibbs stated.

We’re looking forward to working with the teams at Comet to give customers everything they need as a massive range of games and technology is launched this Christmas.”

Comet MD Hugh Harvey added: We’re delighted to be partnering with GAME. As two leading retailers in our respective fields, we will combine to offer a market leading proposition to our customers, with the best deals on games, consoles and accessories as well as Comet’s extensive product range.”

Until recently GAME operated 25 Debenhams concessions though these are all to be closed as part of the entertainment chain’s restructuring plans announced earlier this year.

The retailer previously had a handful of out-of-town concessions last year in Border’s stores, before the book retailer entered administration last year.
