The Gamer Camp and Game Central initiatives have collaborated on a trio of free events that offer those in the development industry a chance to meet with their contemporaries in the West Midlands area.
The first event is the inaugural monthly Meet ’em Up, taking place on December 3rd at Leamington Spa’s The Newbold. Designed as a ‘show and tell’ gathering where experts and opinion formers share conversation and a few pints, the debut date is to focus on the evolving role of marketing in games making, and will include guests from Freestyle Games, Activison, Mode 7 and marketing agency PlayReplay’s Oliver Birch.
The following Wednesday Phillip Oliver will be the star of a special Q&A at Birmingham’s The Old Royal, where attendees will be invited to question the renowned game development veteran.
Finally, on Tuesday, December 15th Gamer Camp’s Show ‘n’ Tell will give game makers an opportunity to enjoy each others work and indulge in a couple of drinks drink with fellow developers in a relaxed pub setting, where a number of studios will be demoing their current and recent projects.
The three events are to be held as part of Birmingham City University, the Interactive Digital Media project and Screen WM’s Gamer Camp. The latter is a four-week training course supported through regional development Advantage West Midlands.
"Recruiting experienced development staff has been a long term challenge for the video games industry,” says course leader and former Studio Director at SEGA Racing Studio, Guy Wilday. “The concept behind Gamer Camp is to provide practical experience of the game development process which would then be directly relevant to any potential employer."
