Games exec joins Official Charts Company

The Official Charts Company has announced the appointment of experienced video games executive Giles Jones as its new head of commercial development.

His former employers include Ubisoft and LEGO Software and most recently served as the European general manager at The Game Factory.

The announcement comes as The Official Charts Company, which is a joint venture between the BPI and Entertainment Retailers Association, continues work on a range of new data services that will be launched over the next six months.

The job will see Jones oversee sales of the company’s data to business and the exploitation of the Official charts through licensing and the development of new services.

The Official Charts are the benchmark by which entertainment consumption and sales success is measured,” Jones stated. I’m looking forward to working with our existing business partners to expand those relationships, as well as forging new alliances, and helping to further build the Official Charts brand and its relevance in today’s market.”

Official Charts Company MD Martin Talbot added: Having spent the past few years establishing our new ‘Official’ brand, building a higher profile for the company and developing new data services and licensing solutions, Giles’ job will be to take our commercial activities to the next level.

As well as taking these to market, Giles’ role will also be about talking to our existing partners and clients about the services we currently provide. In addition, he will also be talking to representatives in other sectors to explore how our unrivalled music and video data can help them – sectors including advertising, broader retailing, toy industry and games business.”
