GameStop shifts focus from games, to close 120-130 stores

GameStop plans to increase its focus on gaming-adjacent” fields while phasing out its reliance on video games, CEO Paul Raines has announced.

Games Industry reports on what Raines dubs as GameStop 3.0,” which will see the closing of 120-130 retail locations.

The company will instead open between 200 and 250 Spring Mobile stores and 20-25 Simply Mac stores. The additions will essentially double the current shop count for both retail chains.

GameStop is also expecting to add another 100 to 150 Cricket locations, which would quintuple its current amount of pre-paid wireless shops.

Between all its stores, Raines states the retailer is already the third-largest and fastest-growing AT&T retailer in the US.
