The Edinburgh Digital Entertainment Festival takes place next month, and the video games industry will be a central pillar.
The event will take place alongside the famous Fringe Festival from August 4th to 28th at Edinburgh’s Assembly rooms, with satellite events being held around the city.
There will be two days dedicated to games development and education, exploring the possibilities of VR, gaming and art, and how the industry can encourage more children to pursue a career in video games. These sessions will take place on August 8th and 9th.
Elsewhere, there will be a virtual reality cinema, the Tech Hub exhibition, plus gaming and coding workshops for young people with the support of Microsoft, Lego Education, Minecraft and BBC Micro:bit.
Video game session highlights from August 8th and 9th include:

- How you can use games for creative expression, with National Video Arcade director Iain Simons
- Playful learning: Games in education, with Microsoft’s Stuart Ball and Immersive VR Education CEO David Whelan
- The best of Protoplay and Dare to be Digital, with Abertay University’s William Huber
- Plus panel sessions on bringing the arts into gaming and the changing face of games education
