GarageGames has revealed the pricing structure for its new iPhone game engine, iTorque – marking the first time the company has charged on a per-title basis for a publicly available engine.
Commercial licensing of the engine, required for studios which earn above $250,000 a year, will cost $1000 to owners of either Torque Game Engine or Torque Game Builder, which includes the right to publish one title with a further charge of $500 per title thereafter.
Although an Indie licence has been planned, current licensing is limited to commercial developers while GarageGames works on documentation and smoothing rough edges. The Indie licence will cost $500 for TGB or TGE owners, with further titles after the first costing $100 each.
The company has also stated that it will soon be providing updates to both TGE and TGB to enable the new resolution options, so that existing owners can begin development towards the handheld’s format in order to facilitate the switch once Indie licensing is opened.
