As the GDC 07 opens registration - revealing support from a host of dev companies - executive director Jamil Moledina has said the March event will cater to everyone in the industry while also focusing on development's "core values".

GDC will serve ‘the industry’s new ecosystem’

Registration for the event, which takes place from March 5th to the 9th at San Francisco’s Moscone Convention Centre, opened last night. Sony, Microsoft, Epic Games and Havok are some of the headline development studios and tools companies having already pledged support with sessions.

For 2007, the event has significantly grown with its expo space filling a gap left by the vapourised E3, which was effectively killed and retooled earlier this year, and aiming to draw in an even wider remit of tools and tech companies. However Moledina says the growth was coming in line with market expansion with or without the presence of E3.

Instead, the growing event – which this year includes expanded casual and indie games offers – "speaks to how the market itself is evolving".

He explained to Develop: "The industry has a new ecosystem that we have to serve and adapt to to – for instance, everyone has had to start paying very close attention to the casual games market. Although we will of course as always be focusing on development’s core values.

"GDC is really the main event we all look to – and it’s where everyone is an equal and where everyone is treated the same way."
