Get ahead with free workshops at Mobile World Congress

Next week, Mobile World Congress takes place in Barcelona. If you’ve been before, you’ll know that the event is huge, but bursting with great ideas for mobile technologies.

All the big names will be there, including Intel, sponsor of this blog, which will be running a number of free developer events about Windows 8 development, HTML5, and the Intel Cloud Service Platform.

If you’d like to find out about the latest features available in Intel tablets and Ultrabook devices, and how you can update your existing software to take advantage of touch input and other sensors, attend the free four-hour workshop on “Ultrabooks & Tablets: App development in Windows 8 using touch, sensors and more”.

The session will cover the latest innovations in tablets and Ultrabooks, the importance of the user experience, a special guest speaker covering Windows 8, tips on developing touch-oriented apps, and how you can enhance your app with sensors. The workshop takes place three times during Mobile World Congress, and it’s free. You have to register, though!

You might remember I wrote previously about the HTML5 App Porter Tool Beta, which enables you to convert your iOS apps to HTML5. It automates as much of the conversion as possible, and provides well documented code you can edit for those iOS calls that aren’t yet supported in HTML5 or in the porter tool.

You can find out more about this tool at Mobile World Congress by attending one of the three free hour-long workshops taking place in the App Planet hall. Registration required, but the event is free.

If HTML5 is your platform of choice (or if you have plans to adopt it in the future), there is a session about cross-platform development using HTML5. Again, it’s an hour long, and it’s free to attend as long as you register in advance.

In this session, expect to hear not just how you can use HTML5 now, but also what the future holds for HTML5, making the workshop essential for those looking to plan their app development business, and the technologies they might be using in the next few years.

Mobile World Congress also presents an opportunity to meet the Intel Cloud Services Platform team, who will reveal how you can use identity services, location based services, commerce services and context services to build apps that offer seamless experiences across devices, operating systems and platforms.

I’ve been to Mobile World Congress twice before and both times I came away buzzing with great ideas about app development and the mobile ecosystem.
