New software works across OS X and Windows for replaces previous, separate versions

GitHub releases new GitHub Desktop application

GitHub has released a new version of its software in the form of GitHub Desktop.

The application allows developers to contribute to projects regardless of whether they’re using OS X and Windows, and has been designed as a unified experience that works across both platforms.

It will replace the previously separate Mac and Windows versions of GitHub, and the upgrade is automatic for established users on either platform.

The idea is that users will be able to perform all critical functions – such as committing changes, opening pull requests and merging code for deployment – without leaving GitHub Desktop. A revamped interface also means that branches are always available in GitHub Desktop’s repository view.

You can find our more via GitHub Desktop’s release notes.
