The games editorial team at The Guardian was once again praised at this year’s Games Media Awards.
Last night the team won the prize for best National Newspaper coverage of video games – it was in fact the fifth time it had won the award, making it still the only newspaper to have won a GMA.
The Guardian covers games online through its dedicated Gamesblog, in regular Thursday reports as part of its technology section in print, and on Saturdays in its The Guide supplement.
The Guardian beat out the freelancers at sister title The Observer, which publishes reviews and interviews every Sunday.
The Games Media Awards are hosted every year by Intent Media, the publisher of leading trade publications MCV and Develop.
Grainger Games was headline sponsor. Trion Games sponsored the pre-event party, and Namco Bandai sponsored the after-party, during which Rockaoke was presented by We Sing (Nordic Games).
Gold partners were Xbox 360 (Microsoft), Codemasters, Battlefield 3 (EA), PS Vita (Sony), Ubisoft, Super Mario (Nintendo) and OnLive.
Silver partners were Namco Bandai and Capcom (sponsors of the after-party), Trion Worlds (pre-drinks event sponsor), Gamescom and We Sing (Nordic Games) which sponsored the after-event bandaoke.
PES 2012 (Konami), Sonic Generations (Sega), NC Soft, Rising Star Games, Green Man Gaming, The Games Tribe, The Darkness II (2K Games) and Venatus Media each sponsored individual awards.
