Claims that now closed Swedish developer was working on Final Fantasy XII spin-off

GRIN was working on FF title

Though there’s not been – and perhaps never will be – official confirmation of the claims, reports this morning are suggesting that recently closed Swedish developer GRIN was working on a surprise Final Fantasy title at the time it was closed.

Kotaku reports that a recently discovered CV from a GRIN employee and a host of concept art point to the shock title, which was being developed under the codename Fortress.

Work on the title supposedly started as soon as development duties finished on recent Capcom outing Bionic Commando came to a close.

The fact that the game was clearly at a very early stage of development increases the likelihood that it will never see the light of day, though Square Enix’s new Westward-looking outlook – which has been significantly enhanced by its recent acquisition of Britsoft firm Eidos – could point to another Western studio taking over development.
