GTA V is the biggest selling entertainment product of 2013. Call of Duty falls to No.5

The Top 20 Entertainment Products of 2013 are in, and it’s unsurprising to see Grand Theft Auto V come out on top, with 3.67m units sold.

It comfortably beats competition from the James Bond movie Skyfall, which sold 2.96m units last year on DVD and Blu-ray.

That means Call of Duty’s reign as the UK’s biggest entertainment product is over. In fact, Call of Duty: Ghosts only managed fifth place, behind FIFA 14 (Video game) and The Hobbit (Video).

Call of Duty: Ghosts sales are significantly down over previous years, with 2m UK sales. In comparison, Call of Duty: Black Ops II hit 2.7m UK sales by this point last year. Activision warned sales would be slower due to the next-gen transition between Xbox One and PS4, with gamers holding off for the better version.

But it’s better news for FIFA. Although it only made No.3 in this year’s chart (last year it managed No.2) sales of FIFA 14 have actually increase. FIFA 14 has sold 2.65m units in 2013, while FIFA 13 had shifted 2.61m in 2012. EA’s latest soccer title is now on-course to be the UK’s best-selling football game.

Outside of GTA V, Call of Duty and FIFA, there were only two other games in the entertainment Top 20. Battlefield 4 at No.15 (838,869 games sold) and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag at No.20 (776,888 games sold).

Digital game sales are not accurately tracked, so these statistics do not include the likes of Minecraft or Candy Crush.
