Harmonix goes independent

Harmonix has established itself as an independent company after being sold off by previous owners Viacom.

Harmonix-SBE Holdings is an affiliate of Columbus Nova, a private investment firm, positioning the Rock Band creators as an independent developer.

The new direction for the company was revealed as Viacom announced it has completed its sale of the loss making business”. The firm announced its plans to sell off Harmonix back in November after disappointing third quarter sales.

Speculation has been rife over the past few weeks as to which major games publisher would be picking up the developer, with both Electronic Arts and Activision tipped as potential buyers.

Harmonix is currently suing its former parent company over claims of "manipulated costs". For more details, head over to MCV’s sister site Develop.
