2003 rhythm action title Amplitude could be the subject of an HD remake if a new Kickstarter from Harmonix is successful.
The Rock Band and Dance Central developer is looking for $775k to fund the PS4 and PS3 title, of which it has raised $143k with 17 days left to go.
It will run at 60fps on a new engine and feature both single and local multiplayer, along with online leaderboards. The studio says it will compose custom tracks for the game, with backers having a say on which do and do not make the final game.
Over-funding could result in some licensed tracks, Harmonix added.
At the moment the title is being regarded as an HD remake of the PS2 original – This project is intended to be a love letter to old-school PS2 fans”, it says – but Harmonix reckons it has lots of ideas for new features that may be added depending on feedback.
With the advancements in technology and the huge creative leaps forward our studio has taken, we believe we can rebuild Amplitude for current consoles and make it an even more amazing experience than before,” the studio said.
We’re aiming to deliver an updated soundtrack, incredible visuals, and fine-tuned controls. These improvements will be layered on top of the core mechanics and hallmark difficulty that made both [Amplitude predecessor] FreQuency and Amplitude such amazing experiences when they first debuted. We’re confident that we can make a game that will do its predecessors justice.”
