A new digital card game-focused report from Superdata states that Blizzard’s free-to-play release Hearthstone is raking in $20m a month between PC and mobile platforms.
The company highlights the figure in asummary of its annual digital card game report, with the analyst firm adding that Blizzard has managed to recreate what WoW did to MMO games in 2004 – leaning on accessibility and the franchise’s well-established lore to reach sudden dominance in yet another sector.
The chart below shows the popularity of the game’s PC and mobile versions. While the mobile edition jumped above the PC release when it launched, both have been bringing in around $10m as of early 2015.
Hearthstone initially launched on Windows and Mac early last year ahead of a series of scattered mobile releases starting with iPad, then Android tablets, and finally smartphones in April of this year.
