Hearthstone hits 75m users with expansion scheduled for April, report claims

Blizzard will release the next expansion for Hearthstone in April, according to a new report.

Yahoo Finance editor Tae Kim claims to have word from an Activision Blizzard employee that the card game has now passed 75m players worldwide and that its numbers “are off the charts”.

As recently as September 2014 its userbase stood at 20m registered accounts.

As a result, the game’s next expansion will be released as soon as April, and will apparently be PvE focused, much like the Curse of Naxxramas expansion released last July.

Furthermore the team is also apparently experimenting with 2v2 gameplay.

“Hearthstone’s success is beyond even the most optimistic expectations and should be a buffer against the continued year-over-year secular decline of the Call of Duty and Skylanders franchises,” Kim added.

Recent data showed that Hearthstone was the third most streamed game on Twitch in Q4 2014.

Activision Blizzard told MCV that it does not comment on rumour or speculation.
