Blizzard's acclaimed digital CCG takes Golden Cube and Best Gameplay

Hearthstone triumphs at Unity Awards

Blizzard Entertainment has taken two of the top prizes at the Unity Awards, which celebrate the best creations authored with the eponymous game engine.

The high profile studio’s tremendously successful Hearthstone – a collectible card game based on the Warcraft IP – claimed the Award’s main Golden Cube prize, along with the Best Gameplay gong.

London studio ustwo also received two awards for the critically acclaimed puzzler Monument Valley; the Best 3D Visuals and Community Choice awards, the latter of which is decided by votes from Unity users.

Other winners included URIDIS Team from game and 3D animation school ISART DIGITAL, which claimed the Best Student Game trophy for The Rift: U.R.I.D.I.S., and Ty Taylor and Mario Castaneda, whose monochrome creation The Bridge secured the title of Best 2D visuals.

“We used to give these awards to the very best games made by you [the Unity Community],” said David Helgason, talking on stage at the Unite Unity user conference ceremony in Seattle, adding: “We’re doing that again this year, but now we are giving them to some of the very best games there are anywhere.”
