Hitman confirmed for PS4, Xbox One, PC

While Edios Montreal was recently taken off the Hitman project it was working on, series creator IO Interactive today confirmed that a next-gen Hitman is well into development.

Encouragingly for long-time Hitman fans, IO promises that the new game, which will see Agent 47 travel the world, will feature a more open-ended, sandbox and checkpoint-free approach to gameplay.

While the game doesn’t have a name yet, it will see 47 at his prime” and working once again with long-term handler Diana Burnwood and the ICA.

We are building this game on the backbone of the Glacier 2 engine, using the best parts and what we have learnt through Hitman: Absolution and drawing inspiration from past titles like Contracts and Blood Money to fulfil the core Hitman fantasy,” IO said in an open letter on the game’s official website.

We’ve adopted an open, non-linear level design approach to the game, ensuring the game will play out across huge, checkpoint-free, sandbox levels. Our aim is to create living, breathing and believable levels which will allow gamers to play around with the AI to create those unique moments every fan of the Hitman franchise loves.”

You will also be glad to hear that we have removed 47’s magic pockets.”

The new game will also include the Contracts mode from Absolution, and more details will be revealed over the course of the year.
