HMV saves 269 jobs at Zavvi

HMV’s buyout of 14 Zavvi stores has saved 269 jobs at the beleaguered entertainment chain, it has emerged.

Zavvi administrator Ernst & Young has revealed the locations of the stores – after MCV broke the news yesterday.

The nine stores HMV has bought in the UK include one in Crewe, Bournemouth and Southend – and two in Glasgow. The retailer has also picked up five stores in Ireland, subject to court and regulatory approval.

Tom Jack, Joint Administrator of Zavvi UK, commented this is a great result for the employees and customers of the stores concerned. 269 employees will transfer across to HMV immediately and over the course of the next two weeks these Zavvi stores will be rebranded as HMV.”

Jack added: We are continuing detailed discussions with a number of interested parties and are optimistic this could lead to the sale of further stores and retention of staff at a number of locations throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland.”

Zavvi continues to trade with 63 stores in the UK and 5 in the Republic of Ireland. We would like to thank zavvi’s loyal staff and customers for their commitment and continued support for the business.”
