Immortals name NHL exec Ari Segal as president and COO

Immortals have named Ari Segal, a long time NHL executive, as their president and chief operating officer.

Segal’s role will see him reporting directly to Immortals CEO Noah Whinston, and will serve as a “non-voting board adviser” while his day to day responsibilities will involve him overseeing the business operations for Immortals and also its currently unnamed Overwatch League franchise.

Segal has worked with several different NHL organisations in a variety of roles, and it is this experience that Whinston has highlighted in a press statement about his hiring:

Segal will oversee business operations for Immortals and its yet-to-be-named Overwatch League franchise, according to a press release. The former Arizona Coyotes COO will serve as a "non-voting board adviser" and report directly to Immortals CEO Noah Whinston."[Segal] brings a wealth of knowledge and passion from the traditional sports industry and has a proven track record of building or repositioning brands to connect deeply with fans, particularly in their local markets. Innovation, access, transparency, and accountability are all hallmarks of his brand-building strategy and management style, making him the ideal fit for this critical role in our organization."

Immortals is in the process of launching its own Overwatch League team, which will exist separately to Immortals, and also run several different esports teams. They are one of America’s best known esports organisations and have received investment from Lionsgate, Linkin Park and others.
