Injustice 2 outlines plans for $600,000 Championship Series

NetherRealm Studios, the developers behind forthcoming fighter Injustice 2, announced the creation of an Injustice 2 Championship Series yesterday in tandem with the game’s publisher, Warner Bros. Games.

The series will offer $600,000 in prizes, a pool that puts it on a level with the prize money offered up by the Capcom Pro Tour, the richest tournament in the fighting game community.

There will be four key events in the Championship series, with the main event being the Injustice 2 Pro Series, with

a prize pool of $300,000 up for grabs as players compete in a series of offline and online events. Players will earn points throughout the circuit, with the top players going through to the Pro Series finals in Los Angeles this October.

This will kick off at Chicago fighting game event Combo Breaker at the end of May. The event takes place over Memorial Weekend, a little over a week after the game launches on May 16.

The circuit will have 12 offline events and six online events. CEO in Orlando, Evo in Las Vegas and Moscow Fighting Arena in Moscow have all been named as key events in the calender.

Outside of the Pro series, North American players can try their chances in the GameStop Hometown Heroes series, with players throwing down in regional online qualifiers, with the best players from each region advancing to offline finals at GameStop stores before the finalists meet at the GameStop Consumer Expo in August.

Latin and South American countries can compete in the Injustice 2 Liga Latina, which will be a mix of offline and online events. Meanwhile, Europeans can compete in Path to Pro, with weekly online events followed by an online final. Both of these finals will also take place in August.
