A flood of angry emails has prompted ITV to assure the industry that any investigation into video games addiction will be fair.
Yesterday, the broadcaster sent out invitations for gamers or their parents whose education or relationships have suffered because of video games – or have suffered from violence connected to games – for a segment on Lorraine Kelly’s daily show.
Angry consumers responded, slamming this one-sided premise for the programme, but ITV has downplayed the initial pitch and pledged to run a balanced piece.
This is an investigation that we are currently only looking into,” a producer for the Lorraine show told CVG. If it becomes something we would like to explore further on the show, we will try, as best as we can, to portray the piece in a balanced light.”
The statement suggests that ITV are reconsidering whether or not it will film the segment at all, but if it does, the firm will be under pressure to do a better job than the BBC’s Panorama: Addicted to Games.
