Iwata: We will carry on Yamauchi’s spirit

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has paid tribute to his predecessor Hiroshi Yamauchi.

Yamauchi passed away yesterday morning in a Kyoto hospital after a battle with pneumonia.

In a statement released by Iwata, the platform holder’s current boss vowed to stay true to the values that saw Yamauchi make Nintendo the most influential company in the world of gaming.

Said Iwata: The entire Nintendo group will carry on the spirit of Mr Yamauchi by honouring, in our approach to entertainment, the sense of value he has taught us — that there is merit in doing what is different — and at the same time, by changing Nintendo in accordance with changing times.”
