Jobs at risk at Square Enix London as staff are placed on consultation

Square Enix is expected to announce a number of redundancies from its UK office.

The firm is attempting to improve its Western performance, and has told MCV that an undisclosed number of staff in the UK have been placed on consultation. MCV understands multiple PR and sales employees are amongst those on consultation.

Square Enix Europe – the business formally known as Eidos – has launched some successful games in recent years, including the reboot of Tomb Raider, but as the number of games in development decreases (not just at Square, but across the industry), the need for large PR, marketing and sales teams have reduced.

"We’re proposing some changes in our London office as part of our ongoing ambition to best position Square Enix for future growth in the West,” the firm told MCV in a statement. The proposed changes are subject to a period of consultation with some of our employees and that is our immediate focus. We’re not able to go into any further details at the moment."

Square Enix’s Western line-up include Rise of the Tomb Raider, Deus-Ex: Mankind Divided and an unnamed Hitman title.
