'Important time to keep attention focused on improving skills across the games industry'

Kim Blake elevated to skills council deputy chair

Blitz Games Studios has announced that its education guru, Kim Blake, is taking on a more central role at the Computer Games Skills Council.

The skills council, chaired by UK figurehead Ian Livingstone, meets on a quarterly basis to share the latest information on games education, as well as debate the best path forward for the British game development scene.

Blake, who is deeply involved in recruitment at Blitz, has been a Skills Council committee member for a number of years.

She now assumes duties as Computer Games Skills Council deputy chair, adding to her leading role at Blitz.

Blake joined Blitz some five years ago, and since, has played a major role in Blitz’s various educational activities, such as organising the Blitz Academy Open Days.

She also contributes to various university advisory boards, Blitz said.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to continue working with Skillset and other dedicated developers,” Blake said.

“It’s especially important right now, in the wake of the Livingstone-Hope Next Gen report and changes to the Higher Education structure, to keep attention focused on improving skills across the games industry and in HE. Students and developers alike need to enhance and hone their skills to keep up with the constantly-rising creative standards in games.”
