Publisher takes on Nintendo guru Marko Hein to head up games hunt

Koch on the acquisition trail

Koch Media is on a major acquisition hunt after a huge investment in its Deep Silver label – and will introduce its first self-published titles on Nintendo formats this year.

The firm has snared Nintendo’s former head of European developer business Marko Hein (pictured) as its director of acquisitions to assist the push – a man commonly seen as the ‘go-to guy’ for European developers whilst at the platform holder.

“You will absolutely see more self-publishing from Koch in the next few years,” MD Craig McNicol told MCV. “Own product is getting more focus and investment than ever and we’re looking to start releasing these titles in the next 12 to 24 months.”

Traditionally, Koch has used the Deep Silver label for co-publishing PC titles with the likes of Black Bean and JoWood, but now the label will appear on the box of DS and Wii titles produced from Koch’s own IP.

“We’re using Deep Silver because it is a brand the consumer will recognise. Of course, our aim is to become a leader in the field. We’re as ambitious in this as we are every other part of our business,” added McNicol.
