Konami confirms new Metal Gear and new development team

It appears that rumours of trouble in the Metal Gear Solid camp are real.

Konami has confirmed via an official translation that it does plan on releasing further Metal Gear games post September’s Phantom Pain, and that it is hiring new developers for the project.

Ominously, however, it only confirms the involvement of series creator Hideo Kojima throughout Metal Gear Solid V’s remaining development time and not beyond.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be released as planned starting on Tuesday, September 1st 2015 in North America, Latin America, and Europe,” the company said. Hideo Kojima will remain involved throughout.

In addition, Konami Digital Entertainment will continue to develop and distribute top-quality content in the Metal Gear series following MGSV: TPP. We greatly anticipate and deeply appreciate your ongoing support for Metal Gear.

As the next step in the series, Konami has already resolved to develop a new Metal Gear title. We will be conducting auditions for main staff to lead the development.”

A Japanese version of the statement was released this morning following claims of a rift between Kojima Productions and Konami, all of which suggest that Kojima and key members of his team will quit Konami later this year.
