Konami profits are up year-on-year

Publisher Konami has reported a 147 per cent increase in net profit for the year ending March.

The numbers don’t quite fit the wider narrative of a company in decline, what with the recent fallout with Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima and the cancellation of Silent Hills – both of which are not mentioned in the financial documents.

Profits for the period reached 9.5bn, up from the previous year’s 3.8bn. It expects much the same this current financial year, too. Operating income was up 87.8 per cent at 14.5bn although net revenue was flat at 218bn.

Sales for the company’s digital entertainment division, however, fell from 104.3bn to 97bn.

Notably the company only has one game confirmed for release outside of Japan – Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. It will surely be joined by PES 2016 in the near future, particularly with PES 2015’s MyClub IAP system said to have performed well”.

It describes this strategy as a policy of selection and concentration due to diversifying consumer preferences”.
