Gamestop has announced a new program to help fund and promote free-to-play mobile titles developed by indies.
The Kongregate Mobile Developers program brings a $10m fund to support financially-challenged devs, as well as offering direct consultation and a reworked GameStop app designed to help promote selected games.
The initiative will be overseen by former Zynga general manager and current Kongregate mobile vice president Panayoti Haritatos. Haritatos was the founder and CEO of Urbansquall, a 2009 acquisition for Zynga.
"Developers are increasingly finding it harder to get their games discovered through the different app stores," said Haritatos, vice president of Kongregate mobile. "I personally faced these challenges in 2009 while managing my own game studio. Utilizing the Kongregate platform made my games successful, which ultimately led to my studio being acquired by Zynga."
