Korean Q&A hints at League of Legends voice chat

League of Legends has long been without voice chat, meaning disparaging remarks and enthusiastic calls for defence have had to take place over text chat as opposed to audio.

However, that’s about to change, it seems. A Q&A session with Riot Korea ended up on Reddit, which has said that “In-game voice chat is currently being internally reviewed.”

This would tally with a Tumblr post from Greg ‘Ghostcrawler’ Street, who responded to a question about voice chat by predicting that integrated voice chat will be added at some point, but will need to offer something that players can’t get from a third-party voice service.

The Q&A session was translated and posted to Reddit by Calycae: ““Previously we worried that voice chat would lead to toxic behaviours, but after rethinking, we ultimately decided to provide an in-game voice chat feature.

“League of Legends promotes team-sport oriented teamwork, and we think that voice chat brings value to when players are matched with random players, so we are reviewing the feature at the moment.

“After the game client update has been applied, we expect concrete plans and preparations to be possible.

“It is difficult to say exactly when, but we would like to let you know that we are working progressively on bringing this feature ready and working.”

If integral voice chat is coming, it’ll be in a future patch, as 7.10 is currently going through the public testing now.
