LEGO Universe still on track despite lay-offs

LEGO Universe has been acquired by the LEGO Group, as well as a handful of staff from the game’s developer NetDevil.

The Group purchased the Warner-published MMO earlier this week, according to Joystiq. The retained NetDevil members will continue to work on the game going forwards.

The studio is owned by Gazillion Entertainment. Yesterday, Develop reported that a significant portion of its staff have been laid off – evidently as part of this changeover. The team is now currently working on a project named Fortune Online.

The transition of members of our team to the LEGO Group allows us to conclude the work-for-hire segment of NetDevil’s business and lets us expand our internally-published, free-to-play game businesses,” said Gazillion president and COO David Brevik.

We’re proud of the LEGO Universe game that our team built, and we are certain that it has a bright future.”
