London games start-up workspace Playhubs is now offering a ‘free-to-play’ membership programme to support new companies.
Small firms can now join the space for free and delay their first three-months membership until they have raised funds or have started generating income.
Playhubs co-founder David Gardner hopes the move will lower the barriers to entry for entrepreneurs looking to make use of its workspace.

“One of the biggest bits of feedback we’ve received from current and potential members has been an appetite to join the Playhubs community, but a challenge on cashflow and financial resources at the very beginning of the journey of building a new studio and company," said David Gardner.
“We’ve all been there and we know what it’s like. We want to help address that challenge and have therefore established a system where teams without the resources to pay for membership can join for free and delay their first three months membership until they raise funding or a generating income. The founders have provided further personal funding to make this happen and are also excited to be in talks with a number of high profile sponsors who are lending their support to the Playhubs initiative."
Not-for-profit venture Playhubs was officially opened in January, and aims to act as a hub for start-ups and the London game community. The workspace offers desk space, access to wi-fi and the chance to meet experts and potential investors. Those on the programme will also be able to keep all the rights to their IP, unless otherwise negotiated with an investor. Playhubs was founded by David Gardner, David Lau-Kee, Paul Heydon, Nisha Valand and Chris Lee.
