At a press conference discussing the debut of Lyon GDC alongside this year’s Game Connection Europe, Connection Events’ Pierre Carde has revealed that for next year the new French development conference may be a standalone event.
For 2007, Game Developer Conference organiser CMP and Game Connection manager Connection Events partnered for Lyon GDC, which started yesterday and concludes today (December 3rd to 4th) in France. It is the inaugural event for French games developers and runs along side B2B event Game Connection Europe, which takes place from today (December 4th) to Thursday this week (December 6th).
Lyon GDC has welcomed over 450 attendees this week – 70 per cent of which were from France. The conference has included a keynotes from Ubisoft and Crytek plus other technical, business and design focused seminars, but Carde is aiming for a possible bigger audience – which means that the two events could be separate going forward.
Said Carde: "Game Connection is going to stay in Lyon, but GDC may well move. It’s possible we’ll have two separate events at two different locations at two different times."
Carde hopes to differentiate Lyon GDC from the main GDC in future by focusing on two key themes – this year was next-gen and multiplatform development.
"Here in Europe, the switch from old gen to new gen – we’ve tried to focus on that this year. We’re already looking at potential topics for next year, and we hope to properly address the challenges faced by developers in Europe."
