Barnstorming debut 24 hours for the new arm of Apple's digital outlet

Mac App Store downloads hit 1m

Apple has confirmed that 1m apps have been downloaded from the Mac App Store in its first 24 hours.

There are already 1,000 free and paid apps available for Mac across categories such as games, education, graphics, lifestyle and productivity. Early users have been wowed by the ease at which apps can be purchased by anyone with an itunes account.

“We’re amazed at the incredible response the Mac App Store is getting,” Apple CEO Steve Jobs stated.

“Developers have done a great job bringing apps to the store and users are loving how easy and fun the Mac App Store is.”

Meanwhile, rumours persist that Apple is on the cusp of announcing a successor to its popular iPad tablet Mac, with many claiming that the machine will be revealed by the end of the month.
