MCV Women In Games Awards: Today we celebrate the huge contribution women make to the UK games industry

The big day is here, it’s the MCV Women in Games Awards 2018. The awards were created to reward and recognise the contribution of women in the UK games industry. And today’s central London event is the culmination of months of planning, nominating, shortlisting and judging.

This year’s event seems especially relevant after what has been a significant 12 months for the issue of gender equality – culminating in the recent release of the first gender pay gap figures. The underlying issues remain the same, but there seems to now be a greater social momentum to finding the answers.

That may have had some impact on our record-breaking number of nominations this year, from which 64 women made it onto the shortlists across 10 categories. Our judging panel of industry experts has had to make the tough choice of picking a single winner in each category, but everyone on the shortlist is highly deserving of praise.

Here’s the full shortlist and congratulations to you all!

Now a regular fixture in the games industry calendar, the MCV Women in Games Awards is being held this year at Headline Sponsor Facebook’s offices off Oxford Street. We have been inundated with ticket requests for the event, and we are at maximum legal capacity – sorry if we didn’t have space to accommodate you.

This incredible event remains free of charge to attend. That simply wouldn’t be possible without the support of our sponsors, so thank you very much to Facebook, Fourth Floor Creative, Splash Damage, Riot Games, Amiqus, OPM, Sumo Digital, Insert Coin and Ukie.

And this year, the event will be hosted by none other than Ukie’s Dr Jo Twist OBE. Twist is the perfect choice to preside over proceedings, having had a large role in making women more visible in the UK games industry in her capacity as the CEO of the UK trade body.

The MCV and events team look forward to seeing you all at the event this afternoon. And if you can’t be with us then please follow the event on Twitter and Instagram as it unfolds.
