Meet the new Woolies

So it’s with wide arms that we welcome Alworths to the retail fold.

It’s not been an easy ride for Andy Latham’s new chain. One of the original architects, Tony Page, left the project early on, while Shop Direct – owner of Woolworths.co.uk – is threatening legal action over the use of the name Alworths.

But with five new stores opened last month – each with a good range of games – and another 17 due in 2010, there’s reason to believe Alworths could become a big High Street player in the years to come.
