Microsoft: Kinect pricing is placeholder

Microsoft claims the initial $150 price point for its new Kinect motion controller has not been finalised.

The company previously gave it a price tag of $149.99 on its official online store, but a warning has now been added to the listing: Official pricing has not been announced. $149.99 is an estimate only and subject to change”.

Additionally, the platform holder’s director of policy and enforcement for Xbox Live Stephen Toulouse posted on Twitter: Guys, I have nothing to do with Kinect pricing. All prices now *no matter what the retail source* are placeholders. We’ve not announced.”

This latest ambiguity about the device’s price point comes as leading retailers tell MCV that Microsoft needs to charge less than 100 for Kinect if it wants to capture its intended audience.
