Microsoft revokes accidental free Fallout 4 downloads

A number of Xbox One owners thought they’d got lucky last week when they had seemed to grab themselves a free copy of Bethesda’s Fallout 4.

The game’s price, and that of its Season Pass, was mistakenly dropped to absolutely nothing for a brief period, and word quickly spread online about the giveaway.

However, those who managed to download the game for free have now been told that their game will no longer work. In fact, users are reporting that it’s simply gone from their machines.

It’s not all bad, though – Microsoft has given users $10 in compensation for the disappointment, Polygon reports.

Our pricing error on Fallout 4 has been fixed and your free download will no longer work,” Microsoft has told those affected. For the inconvenience we will deposit $10 by the end of June in your Microsoft Account. This expires one year from the time it was deposited.”
