Computing giant spills the beans on its next-gen console

Microsoft unveils Xbox One

Microsoft has unveiled the new Xbox.

After years of speculation, Microsoft has finally unveiled its next-gen console, called the Xbox One.

Taking to the stage, Microsoft president of Interactive Entertainment Business Don Mattrick said Microsoft would be revealing "a new generation in the living room".

He said that TV would become "more intelligent", with the new Xbox making "all entertainment come alive in once place".

He said Microsoft had aimed to bring a new "all-in-one system to light up TV, games and entertainment".

Speaking afterward, Senior VP of online audience business group at Microsoft Yusuf Mehdi said the new console would instantly recognise its user.

The hardware would also no longer require manual log-ins, and there would also be no more updates.

He also showed off the latest "instant switch" features using voice commands, in which the user simply needed to state "watch TV", "Play game", "Play music" to switch between entertainment.

Mehdi also revealed a new "snap mode", which allows users to run multiple programs at once without having to shut a particular one down.

He showcased how users could use internet explorer while also watching a film, and even watch trailers or find movie tickets at the same time.

ANother implementation of snap mode is the use of Skype, in which the caller appears on the top right of the screen, enabling users to carry on watching their film or playing their game.

Other television entertainment features include being able to use Xbox Guide and voice commands to find specific TV shows, channels and listings through voice commands and a visual guide.

Medhi called the Xbox One "the new generation of games entertainment, and the new generation of truly intelligent TV".
