Mike Sherlock, Square Enix’s COO, has passed away

The COO of Square Enix America and Square Enix Europe, Mike Sherlock, has died unexpectedly.

Sherlock had been in the dual role since July 2015, having served as COO of Sqaure Enix Europe since 2009. He enjoyed a long stint at the firm, first joining the European operation back in 2005 as senior vice president of marketing.

Prior to joining Square Enix, Sherlock also served as president of international publishing for Acclaim Entertainment as well as executive vice president of sales & marketing for Sega Europe. There will be many across the industry who have worked with him over the years.

Phil Rogers, CEO of Square Enix Europe and America, commented: “It is with tremendous sorrow that we announce the passing of our great friend and colleague, Mike Sherlock.

“Mike was a principled and charismatic leader who led by example. He was extremely proud of the progress and success we have shared over the years. The entire Square Enix family mourns this tragic loss, and our deepest sympathies are with his family and loved ones.”

For the immediate future, the Square Enix’s executive team will “assume Sherlock’s immediate responsibilities to ensure the continuity of its strategic direction and operations.”
