Minecraft XBLA hits 5m copies sold

Mojang has revealed the latest milestone for its multi-platform hit Minecraft, announcing that the Xbox 360 Edition has reached 5m sales.

Mojang’s Daniel Kaplan shared the info on Twitter, adding that the number was reached on the final day of 2012. The word comes just days after the company announced the title sold nearly half a million copies across all platforms on Christmas day.

The port has turned out to be a complete success for the indie studio and its affiliates, selling remarkably strong since its launch in March of last year. As of early last month, the console version was moving 50,000 copies a week on average.

Minecraft’s mobile port recently hit the 5m sales mark as well, though it took the version twice as long to get there versus the XBLA release.
