The Miami Heat backed organisation Misfits has signed Armando "Angelic" Mejia, a fighting game player known for his Marvel vs Capcom skills. The move comes just months before Marvel vs Capcom Infinite is due to launch, with Angelic saying that he intends to compete in the new title.
Angelic becomes the first fighting games player to join Misfits, who have been expanding their team roster rapidly since receiving investment from the Miami Heat NBA team. While many other orgs are looking at Street Fighter and Smash players, Misfits decided to take a gamble on the future, in the hopes that the new Marvel vs Capcom title takes off as an eSport.
"I’ve always felt like I was never able to reach my true potential in tournaments due to several circumstances but now, with Misfits, that’s changed," said Angelic when speaking to ESPN. "I will show the world how dominant I can be in Marvel vs Capcom and bring my gameplay across the globe. I am extremely excited to partner up not only as a player but as a TO. I truly believe that Misfits will do extremely well in the FGC and I’m excited to be a part of the team. The future of 2017 looks extremely bright!"
"We’ve been looking to explore the fighting game community further," said Misfits co-founder and CEO Ben Spoont. "With Armando, we have the opportunity not just in helping a top player showcase his skills across the country this year, but also explore other dimensions within the fighting game community such as tournaments. I’m excited to bring Armando aboard."
