Mojang’s income doubled last year on the back of its continued success with world-building game Minecraft.
As reported by The Wall Street Journal, the developer brought in 816 million Swedish kronor ($128m), significantly more than the 325m kronor it made in 2012. Revenue grew by 38 per cent to 2.07bn kronor.
Minecraft was first released in 2009 but the game’s popularity has continued to grow as it hits more platforms. Most recently the title was released on PS3, and has already sold over one million copies on Sony’s hardware.
"Usually with games, you would start to expect a decline after the first year since launch," said Mojang CEO Carl Manneh.
"That’s never really happened for us."
As of last month, Minecraft has sold over 35 million copies across all platforms, with 14 million sold on PC alone.
Another Mojang title, strategy collectible card game Scrolls, has also been a success for the company, having become profitable during its first week in open beta last year.
