Monday December 3rd named as Amazon’s Cyber Monday

Amazon.co.uk has predicted that Monday December 3rd will be the busiest online shopping day of the year.

Known as Cyber Monday, Amazon reckons orders will peak at 9:20pm and on what it believes could be its busiest ever day in the UK, The Huffington Post reports.

In 2012 Cyber Monday took place on December 5th. At the time delivery trucks were leaving Amazon’s UK warehouse at the rate of one every two minutes and 45 seconds.

Top sellers are predicted to be J K Rowling’s first non-Potter novel The Casual Vacancy and Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel Prometheus, as well as Amazon’s own Kindle tablet.

As people increasingly shop on mobile devices and benefit from fast broadband at home, we’re seeing a move towards customers buying their Christmas gifts later in the evening when they are at home relaxing,” said Amazon.co.uk MD Christopher North.

Monday December 3rd could be the busiest day in the history of Amazon.co.uk, and we’re preparing for it by hiring more than 10,000 seasonal employees across our eight UK fulfilment centres.”
