More to come following stellar results for GAME

GAME’s sales have rocketed by a mighty 89.1 per cent in 2007 – and CEO Lisa Morgan says there’s more to come before the year is out.

Like-for-like sales soared 44.1 per cent in the same period – the 45 weeks ending December 8th. We’re really pleased with the performance for year to date,” said Morgan.

We’ve still got a couple of key weeks ahead of us, representing something like 20 to 25 per cent of revenues for the year as a whole. We’re looking forward to what that brings for next year.”

Whilst Nintendo deserves a great deal of attention for GAME’s landmark successes this year, Morgan attributes the retailer’s storming results to the variation and buoyancy of the whole market.

There’s no question that our success is on the back of the really buoyant video games market we’re seeing at the moment,” she added.

DS Lite continues to do phenomenally well within the stores, and demand is outstripping supply for Wii. But I’m also really pleased with the performance that we’ve seen from PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, which are really gaining good momentum, whilst the PS2 and PSP have also done very well. Collectively, the whole proposition is putting us in a really great place right now.

We’ve added 330 stores for this current year so we’re certainly looking to break records this Christmas.”

Taking UK and Ireland stores in isolation, GAME recorded an
ever-more-impressive 92.1 per cent sales jump in the period.
