MW2 Resurgence detailed

Further to its announcement yesterday, the first details of the second map pack for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 have been revealed in an interview with Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling on Major Nelson’s podcast.

Called Resurgence, the bundle will – much like its predecessor Stimulus – include three new maps and two re-worked versions of maps already seen in the first Modern Warfare.

The new levels are Trailer Park (a ‘super condensed’ maze-style map), Carnival (an abandoned amusement park) and Fuel (large, sniper-friendly and set in an oil refinery).

The two levels set for a return are Vacant and Strike.

In this modern digital world, Activision is taking its digital expansion for the Modern Warfare series very seriously, backing their arrival with huge marketing pushes.

There’s no word yet on the price, though expect it to match the 1200 MSP Activision controversially charged for MW2’s first map pack – a move that developer Infinity Ward later had to defend.

There’s a slim chance, of course, that Activision could choose to up the price, as some analysts have called for. And the overwhelming success of the Stimulus Pack proves that the 10.20 asking price clearly wasn’t too high a price.

Though Activision may choose to mirror the price of its predecessor it will be hoping to avoid a repeat of the launch problems it suffered. Its release on Xbox Live was marred by the failure of a title update that was required for users to access the content.

Then upon its release on the PlayStation Network a few weeks later problems with Sony’s payment system prevented gamers from purchasing the extension.

Resurgence is due for release on Xbox Live on June 3rd. A PSN date has not been announced, though expect something around July/September.
