Nautilus announces Real Cricket 14 for iOS, Android

After the success of its award-winning mobile RPG – Song of Swords, Nautilus Mobile is shifting gears for its second game.

Real Cricket 14 is a cricket simulation planned for release in mid-March on iOS and Android. Why the drastic move from RPG to cricket?

Anuj (Mankar, CEO) brought me to my first cricket match when I arrived in India three years ago,” Nicolas Beuvin, managing director of Nautilus, said, I immediately thought ‘cricket is more than just a sport; cricket is an art, just like boxing’. But when I had a look at the cricket games that were available, I realised that none of them were actually reflecting this. None of them had been able to capture the spirit of this amazing game”.

I am convinced we are the first to capture the essence of cricket. The real cricket fans will be crazy about our game, I can bet my life on that,” Beuvin added.

Real Cricket 14 will feature various formats of cricket, including 20-20, World Cup, and a Premier League mode that will also allow for player transfers through an in-game auction system.

The game promises deep gameplay mechanics, with over 25 batting strokes, and realistic ball physics. The game will also allow complete control over bowling and fielding, with on-the-fly field changes possible.

Beuvin believes the game’s distinctive 2D hand-drawn art style is vital in conveying the essence of the sport in a way that previous games couldn’t.

Vaibhav, our lead artist, spent almost six months trying to find an art style that would be able to capture the soul of this game, and we came up with something that has never been done – our game looks like a living painting. This is fantastic,” Beuvin said.

The studio plans to turn Real Cricket into a franchise and has been active on the Planet Cricket forums, seeking feedback and suggestions from fans of cricket games. The team plans to add multiplayer in future versions of the game.

Nautilus Mobile is comprised of ex-Gameloft Hyderabad developers, and Beuvin and Mankar spoke with MCV at length on various topics, including what went down at Gameloft, starting out on Blackberry, moving from a big studio to an indie setup, Real Cricket 14, and a lot more.
