It seems like Neil Druckmann will be taking the helm of The Last of Us Part II alone, after Sony has revealed in a statement ot Kotaku that Druckmann’s long-time colleague and co-director Bruce Straley is currently in the midst of a year long sabbatical.
In a statement to Kotaku, Sony said: "Bruce recently decided to take some much deserved time off after shipping two critically acclaimed games in the last few years. He’s looking forward to returning to the studio soon and jumping back in on his next project."
It isn’t clear from this message whether Straley will be involved with the game when he returns from the sabbatical, or moved onto something else entirely.
This isn’t a reason to worry about The Last of Us Part II of course, Druckmann was crucial to both Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us, but it’s sad to see the partnership break up, even if it’s temporarily. Straley and Druckmann shipped The Last of Us, that games successful expansion and then Uncharted 4, with each title finding critical success.
