Robert Troughton resurrects racing studio from Midway Newcastle ashes

New Pitbull studio opens

Exactly one year after the closure of Midway Studios Newcastle, Robert Troughton has opened a new studio named Pitbull Studio Limited, of which he will serve as MD.

The new studio name harks back to that of Midway Newcastle before it was brought up in 2006 – Pitbull Syndicate Limited. A press release from the firm has stated its intention to “pick up the best developers in the region in order to regain its title as the best racing game developer in North East England.”

The release also promised that details of a first title are set to be announced soon, and that it will make a significant departure from the racing titles the studio name is synonymous with.

“The North East has a lot of games development talent. It was a very sad day when the old studio closed and it’s really been my dream to revive it. The industry has changed a lot since the day that we sold the original Pitbull – it was a real shame that Midway’s management never seemed to move fast enough with the trends,” said Troughton.

“We won’t be making the mistakes of the past with the new studio – what happened there has actually strengthened us, I would say, we’ve learnt a lot from the experience of being part of a large publisher.”
