New Pokemon game lands on iOS and Android

The Pokemon Company has released another Pokemon title on smartphones.

This one is called Magikarp Jump and sees players first fishing for a Magikarp and then training and levelling it so as to become an accomplished jumper. Obviously.

Once said Magikarp is either knocked out or retired, players start over with a new version of the creature which builds upon the accomplishments of the first. It’s a pretty simple affair that’s designed to be accessible, by the looks of it. Other Pokemon will also put in an appearance from time to time

Like Pokemon Go, this new game is free to play but is supported by microtransactions that can both expedite play and spruce up the backgrounds. Save data is stored locally and must be manually backed up.

What is this world coming to? It’s a Pokmon game all about the weakest Pokmon ever—Magikarp! Anyone can play this simple game in their spare time to create the most majestic Magikarp ever in this official Pokmon app,” the colourful description reads.

Many surprising events lie in store for this pathetic Pokmon. But don’t worry—it’ll just keep on jumping until it can jump no more.”

The game needs iOS 8 or higher, and warns that some features will be inaccessible on jailbroken devices.

The Pokemon Company’s iOS catalogue is growing fairly large now, with existing releases including Pokemon Duel, Pokemon Shuffle, Pokemon Chat Pals and Pokemon Pixel Art. Then of course there is the phenomenon that is Pokemon Go, although that it a Niantic-developed title.
